Tok & Tred: Scroll your way to weight loss and leaning out
Yes, fundamentally our time spent on our phone is a net negative. Ok, that’s out of the way.
If we know that getting more steps into our day will help us both jumpstart weight loss but also finish off weight loss with it being the best way to burn off that last little bit, then setting up a way for us to walk enjoyably would be a great idea.

This comes to us from a long time client and friend, Lindsey McGee who has never been mistaken for an inactive person. But even being in a incredible shape, she knows getting her steps in makes life better.

Introducing, Tok & Tred
A chance to give yourself the green light to indulge in mindless scrolling for a set period of time while you walk on a treadmill.
Pick a 30 minute window, grab your head phones and your phone, and step up on that treadmill. Get to walking.
Slow or fast. Flat or incline, steps are steps.
Yes, bump that incline up a few points to increase the impact more quickly. Do remember that our goal is not to feel like we are really working out. A small challenge is good, but heavy breathing and struggling changes how the activity impacts our body.
Of course you do not have to use TikTok or Instagram. You could watch a guilty pleasure show, listen to a book podcast, or entertain yourself in any other way.
Start with walking 1 mile. That will take you around 20 minutes. Maybe faster, maybe a bit slower depending on the speed you choose. But truly just lose yourself in your phone or your show and just let your legs carry you.
Suddenly your daily step count is up 2,000 or more every time you do this.
All of a sudden you start to see that bit of muscle definition you’ve been wanting to see.
Suddenly the weight starts to slide down a bit quicker as you build consistency.
Not everyone has access to a treadmill but many of us have a treadmill in our life somewhere. In an apartment complex gym, at the gym we already have a membership to, at an office gym. In a dusty corner of our own garage.
Stair climbers and bikes all work too although scrolling may become more challenging. But if getting your daily activity up is a challenge, or you just need to add a bit more, using these periods for unrestrained scrolling can help those of us who struggle with getting their steps in regularly.
It is important to note that a more healthy approach would be group walks with people we care about, or walks alone to give us time on our own. However, again, life is not perfect. And this challenge only has 4 more full weeks so let’s not make any moral judgment and just pick what would be exciting or interesting for us to try.
Go get your steps!
